Ohio State tried really hard this week not to give me much to gripe about. For much of the game I didn’t have a whole lot of complaints. But I’m nothing if not persistent, so I stuck with it and found plenty of things to be angry about despite the ultimate 73-14 win over the Maryland Terrapins. Let’s get to what made me want to spray passersby with the hose.
The Buckeyes and Badgers met in what would have been a much bigger game if not for the Badgers stubbing their toes in Champaign last weekend. Wisconsin still presented the most difficult test to date for the Buckeyes and all Ohio State did was win by 31 points on a day with weather that made passing difficult. It’s been a difficult season to…
Back when I was younger and far less wise, I predicted that Justin Fields would throw the ball over 30 times in a single contest. It seemed like an astute projection, based on observation of the perceived weakness of the opponent’s defense. As it turns out, the Buckeyes could not have cared less how good Michigan State’s run defense was and proceeded…
It doesn’t take much to get people around the Ohio State football program to talk about what Garrett Wilson could turn into for the Buckeyes one day soon.
Not a lot of sense wasting time on last week’s statistical recap. I was accurate on a couple of predictions, but undervalued the offense and it showed in the overall yardage. When you rush for over seven yards per carry and better than 300 yards, overshooting the passing yardage is possible. I did just that. I hit on another Justin…
I was close on some aspects of this game but like many people I thought it would be much closer than it was. Read: I thought Cincinnati might score some actual points. But, I’m not complaining. Justin Fields made me look smart last Saturday, which is a rare feat and one that I’m eternally grateful for. My prediction for him was 20 completions for 238 yards…
It’s your Week 2 edition of Grumpy Old Buckeye and we’re talking about Ohio State vs. the University of Cincinnati. If you’re new to this column, welcome! The aim here is to be the voice of negativity, even when things are generally pretty great. I point out the things from each game that make me want to walk out onto my lawn in my bathrobe and yell at people about it.
One game into their careers, close to half of Ohio State’s 2019 recruiting class has already started to make their mark on the field.
Welcome back to the first Grumpy Old Buckeye of the 2019 Ohio State season. If you’re new to this column, welcome! The aim here is to be the voice of negativity, even when things are generally pretty great. I point out the things from each game that make me want to walk out onto my lawn in my bathrobe and yell at people about it.
The best thing about college football is the constant rejuvenation of talent and experience. It’s a conveyor belt of new names and new faces making big plays all over the country, and it will be no different for the Buckeyes in Ohio Stadium tomorrow afternoon. And I’m not even talking about Justin Fields (1)…
