Sophomore Isaiah Pryor entered Ohio State’s spring camp as the favorite to land the job next to Jordan Fuller. He left camp as the favorite as well, but he still has some work to do to win the job outright. Pryor was Damon Webb’s backup at field safety as a true freshman last season. During the spring, however, Pryor…
The Ohio State football team must replace two departed safeties from last season in starter Damon Webb and reserve Erick Smith. One starter does return in the form of junior Jordan Fuller, but he has moved over to Webb’s vacated field safety spot. The spring was spent trying to find a replacement for Fuller at boundary safety.
It may be a completely different topic, but the title of the documentary could be applied to the pending decision by Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and his coaching staff on who will be the starting quarterback for the 2018 season. More on that momentarily. Throughout the spring practices, I ranked position…
Every year people get excited for Ohio State’s spring game. It’s the first opportunity to see the latest edition of the Buckeyes, after all. The anticipation builds and builds, until finally the game begins. And that’s when people remember that there is no tackling for most of the game. Then comes the grumbling…
Now that we know the Ohio State spring game is officially going to happen on Saturday, it’s time to talk about what we’re looking forward to seeing. We talked about it for a good hour on Accost the Field this week, but since not everybody is the listenin’ type, I thought I’d break a few of the areas down that I’ll be watching.
Urban Meyer said this week that the Buckeyes are still waiting for a starter to emerge at boundary safety. Given that this position is often that last line of defense deep down the field, there is understandably…
There is plenty of talk about the large number of receivers who return for the Buckeyes this season, and even a little bit of talk about sophomore Jaylen Harris who only had a couple of catches last season. There has been virtually no talk about redshirt freshman Ellijah Gardiner, however. But don’t worry. “Man, a whole…
Isaiah Pryor stood in the locker room after Ohio State’s Cotton Bowl win over USC last season and knew that the future was now his. With the graduation of safety Damon Webb, Pryor was now the next in line. He had backed up Webb all season long as a true freshman at free safety, and now he was ready to take the torch.
Robert Lawrence Stine, better known in literary circles as R.L. Stine, is a native Ohioan from Columbus, and a proud graduate of The Ohio State University. While Stine is a novelist with a focus on children’s literature, one might apply the quote above as we move onto the next position group to review, the 2018 Ohio State defensive backs.
The Buckeyes were back on the practice field for the fourth time during spring camp. Media was not permitted to attend, but afterward reporters spoke with some of the Ohio State quarterbacks and safeties, including Dwayne Haskins, Tate Martell, Jordan Fuller, and Isaiah Pryor. Assistant coaches Ryan Day and…
At some point in the next week or two, a first-year Ohio State football player will likely join an exclusive club, becoming the first player in his class to lose his black stripe. Every season since Urban Meyer arrived in Columbus in 2012, first-year players in the Ohio State football program have started their careers with…
