Let me just say that Mountain Time is pretty excellent for old timers like myself when it comes to night football games. They wrap up right around my senior citizen bedtime and that makes me happy. On the other hand, when you’re meeting a good friend in Colorado and have a few local beverages the night before, a noon game (now all of the sudden a 10 am kickoff) makes for a rough showing.
COLUMBUS — Ohio State co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Mike Yurcich spoke with reporters on Tuesday. He was followed by fifth-year senior defensive tackle Jashon Cornell and sophomore quarterback Justin Fields. They talked about the season they are all having and the challenges ahead. With just under 10 minutes remaining in the third period of Saturday’s game against Wisconsin, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields faked the hand-off to running back JK Dobbins, kept the ball, and then took off over the left side for a 10-yard touchdown run. He took a big hit from Badger safety Eric Burrell at the goal line, went airborne and then landed hard on his back in the end zone.
Although they weren’t on the field at the same time, arguably one of the best match-ups in Saturday’s game was between the two Heisman-caliber running backs, Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor and Ohio State’s J.K. Dobbins.
COLUMBUS — Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and sophomore quarterback Justin Fields spoke with reporters after the Buckeyes big 38-7 win over the #13 Wisconsin Badgers. Fields didn’t put up huge numbers, but he led an offense that overwhelmed Wisconsin’s defense. Day gave his thoughts about the entire afternoon and how his team responded to the adversity placed in front of them.
And like that, the Buckeye victory train keeps on rolling. Even with their big brains, the Wildcats of Northwestern had no answers for Ohio State last Saturday Friday night. The Buckeyes scored more and gave up less than I projected, making me feel like a Negative Nelly for yet another week, despite picking them to win by nearly five touchdowns.
They are Nos. 1 and 2 in your scorebook and probably also Nos. 1 and 2 in your hearts. As for Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields (No. 1) and defensive end Chase Young (No. 2) are Nos. 1 and 2 on his mind. Fields — with just seven career starts under his belt — leads the Big Ten in pass efficiency (190.20), which is also good for fourth in the nation.
