As evidenced by his first-round draft status a couple of weeks ago, former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins has an “NFL arm.” In fact, he may have the strongest arm in Buckeye history, though Cardale Jones would have something to say about that. But, as Yoda once said, “There is another.” This past winter, Justin Fields arrived, and with…
Urban Meyer’s plan to win always incorporated field position. The further back the opponent starts, the better. The closer your team starts to the opposing end zone, the better. No, it’s not rocket science, but Meyer did have percentages for likelihood of scoring depending on field position that he believed in and relied upon. That was data.
Freshman running back Marcus Crowley finished his first spring camp with the Buckeyes by rushing for 50 yards and a touchdown in 10 attempts in last month’s Ohio State spring game. Crowley put a memorable stamp on camp with his final performance. Early on during spring practice, running backs coach Tony Alford…
Since Urban Meyer arrived, Ohio State’s defensive end recruiting has been impressive. In fact, 5-star Cincinnati defensive end Adolphus Washington committed to Ohio State less than a week before Meyer would officially be named head coach. The writing was already on the wall, however. Five-star prospect Noah Spence eventually…
Brian Hartline’s coaching career has been an interesting dichotomy of rarities and commonalities. On the one hand, Hartline’s beginning is extremely common. He simply volunteered. He got his foot in the door by helping Ohio State’s scout team prepare for the playoffs back in 2016. On the other hand, Hartline’s rise…
Tight end Jeremy Ruckert played in 12 games last year as a true freshman, but caught just one pass for 13 yards. It also happened to be his first real experience as a tight end. In high school, at 6-foot-5 and 230-odd pounds, Ruckert played receiver. He played it very well, but was always projected to play tight end in high school.
As a true freshman in 2016, Demario McCall was the Buckeyes’ No. 2 running back behind Mike Weber. Of course, having Curtis Samuel at H-back and JT Barrett at quarterback meant that there were not a lot of carries remaining for McCall, who was utilized mostly in “garbage time.” Urban Meyer used to lament McCall’s slight frame…
The 2019 NFL Draft has come and gone, which means it is now time to speculate about the names you’ll be seeing in the 2020 NFL Draft. With Nick Bosa and Dwayne Haskins going in the first round this year, the Buckeyes have now had a player selected in the first round in each of the last four years. Can they make it five years in a row next year?
Nine different Buckeyes were selected in the 2019 NFL Draft this weekend, but that wasn’t the end of the NFL story for Ohio State this year. Following the draft, four other Buckeyes who went undrafted signed free agent deals with NFL teams. There were 15 scholarship players from last year’s team who exhausted their eligibility…
Day one of the 2019 NFL Draft went as expected for the Buckeyes, as Nick Bosa and Dwayne Haskins were the only two to hear their names called in the first round. Day two will feature rounds two and three and begins at 7:00 pm Friday night. There had been chatter earlier in the day that Parris Campbell could possibly join the list of…
Ohio State’s fifth-year senior quarterback Chris Chugunov spent his first three years in college playing in an up-and-down West Virginia offense. One week, they would be scoring 39 points in a loss, and the next week they’d put up 20 points in a win. Playing in the wide open Big XII, however, Chugunov saw his fair share of offenses over those…
