It’s homecoming weekend for Chris Chugunov, who played his high school ball for Montgomery High, about 30 minutes away from the Rutgers campus.
Ohio State co-offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson met with reporters prior to practice on Tuesday. He answered a number of questions about the Buckeye offense and the talented personnel on hand. Also speaking with the media were fifth-year senior quarterback Chris Chugunov, fifth-year nose tackle Davon Hamilton, junior cornerback Jeff Okudah, and redshirt sophomore center Josh Myers.
Ohio State tried really hard this week not to give me much to gripe about. For much of the game I didn’t have a whole lot of complaints. But I’m nothing if not persistent, so I stuck with it and found plenty of things to be angry about despite the ultimate 73-14 win over the Maryland Terrapins. You already know by now who is catching the passes and who is running the football this season. Now, it’s time to cover some other gentlemen that can make or break a season — the quarterbacks. COLUMBUS — On Monday, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day announced that sophomore transfer Justin Fields will be taking the first snap at quarterback for the Buckeyes in the home opener against Florida Atlantic University later this month. Fields beat out Kentucky graduate transfer Gunnar Hoak as well as senior Chris Chugunov to win the starting job.
Fall camp got underway for the Buckeyes one week ago today and every single Ohio State position coach has a mental list of things that they need to get done. In fact, they may actually have a physical list as well. Speculating as to what might be on each assistant coach’s list is always a fun exercise, and there are no shortages of items that will need to be addressed.
Justin Fields, a 5-star quarterback, No. 2 overall player in the 2018 class, was one of the highest-ranked quarterbacks Ohio State has ever had.
We’re back for our May offseason edition of the Silver Bullets Podcast and, because we know nobody can get enough of it, we have lots more quarterback talk for your listening enjoyment. Chip and I discuss Ryan Day’s transfer haul and how Ohio State made out about as well as it could in the QB department, all things considered.
