In this edition of The Room, Ohio State’s new passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Mike Yurcich talks about his approach to coaching his players.
Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, Yurcich listens to his players to get a feel for how they learn and then he tailors his teaching to their needs.
There are, of course, still things that every quarterback needs to get done in the same manner, and Yurcich holds his players to a very high standard.
Former Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph is featured in the video, as is current Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields. Both players speak to how Yurcich has helped them improve as quarterbacks.
Yurcich also talks about the kind of quarterbacks the Buckeyes are looking for and the traits that must be apparent in every player they will recruit.
Below this video are the other editions of The Room from OSU’s social media department.

I personally think that Coach Yurcich is the real deal. Whether it’s my personal bias or not, he has his work cut out for him trying to repair a guy (Justin Fields) with flat out HORRIBLE throwing mechanics. His motion might be good for baseball but it sets his release point entirely to low for passing the football. If that doesn’t get fixed before the fall I suspect we’re going to see a bunch of pass knockdowns at the LOS.
If the offense sputters through the air it’s literally on Justin Fields’ throwing motion.
